Royal watching in stockholm

Stockholm has certainly been a great place for playing "Spot the Royal "which is of course very exciting for the keen monarchists in our group. We have a few glimpses of Amy, Bridie and Harley standing in roped off areas put there by stern youngsters in uniforms with horse tail hats , wondering if someone famous is about to turn up . Waiting for Royals does not seem to be a big Swedish past time  ( hence it was very easy for the keen royal watchers in our group to get a front row spot)

We didn't expect to get an invite to the Royal christening but they heard we were in town and put on a bit of extra cake for us .

We headed out to Drottingholm
slot castle  on our bikes ( a bit difficult to ride in designer christening outfits  but we managed.) We thought we might catch up with " Our Mary" there but only close family members  and a few select friends such as Harley and Jen were invited.

Amy and Bridie were disappointed not to get the nod . They decided to stay in town with what it's seems like most of the rest of the Stockholm population on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Filling in time before  our official Royal engagements we went on a freewalking tour of the "hipster" part of town .  Its " free" only because money isn't really discussed until the end and they are adamant that you don't have to pay anything but you feel too guilty not to handover some kroner seeing this poor phd student and new mum has just worked her butt off for the last 90 minutes showing you the Quirky sights of Södermalm. ( I m just hoping tour leader "H" is not expecting too many tips at the end  some of his group could jack up and quibble about who is actually doing the leading !!!) We met a young Ozzie engineer on our " free tour" who has just moved here for work ( and love) and he gave us the ins and outs of living in Stockholm. described stockholm as expensive but " nice" as compared to Copenhagen which was very "cool". Amy and Bridie agree . We are still searching for that illusive perfect place to shop. Amy thinks Melbourne comes up trumps for shopping but of course Stockholm does much better on the Royal front ( William and Kate wouldn't even pop into Melbourne )
